TWO ANATOLIAN PEOPLE

Kamil YAZICI and İzzet ÖZİLHAN

It was the early 50s when Kamil Yazıcı and İzzet Özilhan set up their business in a small hardware store in Tahtakale, and while they were dreaming for the future in that small shop, they also shaped an ideal. The Yazıcı and Özilhan families came out of the heart of Anatolia and came to the struggle for life in Istanbul. Kamil Yazıcı was born in Niğde-Aksaray and İzzet Özilhan was born in the Pusatlı village of Kayseri-Tomarza. As they reaped the fruits of their hard work and perseverance, they also made plans to share their earnings with the Anatolian people. They knew both the poverty and lack of education of the places they came from.
When the two families founded Anadolu Holding in 1969, they started one of the most important entrepreneurship stories in the history of the Republic. When they established the Anadolu Education and Social Assistance Foundation in 1979, they had the feeling of serving the Anatolian people in their hearts, with the strength they received from their entrepreneurial values. Their common ideal is to create permanent works that will serve in the areas needed and to bring bright new generations to the society. Adopting philanthropy as a civic duty, Kamil YAZICI and İzzet ÖZİLHAN determined the priority fields of activity of the Foundation as education and health.
The first service was to build educational institutions; A primary school was built in the name of Mustafa Yazıcı in Niğde, Aksaray, and a student dormitory in the name of Vesile Özilhan in the town of Tomarza in Kayseri. Anadolu Foundation has built more than 50 educational institutions, dormitories, gymnasiums, hospitals and health centers all over Turkey in 33 years; transferred to the relevant government agencies. The foundation provided scholarships to tens of thousands of students and provided free healthcare to more than 20,000 people in need. Anadolu Foundation was there wherever help was needed. Sometimes prefabricated schools and financial aid were provided for earthquake victims who lost their homes due to earthquakes, sometimes a helping hand was extended to a disabled citizen who could not afford to buy a wheelchair, and treatment expenses were paid.
Today, group companies donate between one and five percent of their earnings to Anadolu Foundation, which is funded entirely by the support of Anadolu Group companies.
